Tissue Holder, Prim Ornies

I have been busy working on several projects, these are from patterns from Samantha's Accessories.  I finished one of the tissue holders and have one in the works:
Also from Samantha are these primitive snowmen ornies:
Samantha has been having a Christmas in July celebration all month and offering free patterns and giveaways plus tutorials and ideas.  And this week, I won!  She was giving away three free patterns.  I selected a snowman tissue holder, Santa clothesline and Santa in a Can.  If you are a prim lover, or if you have a love of aprons, check out Samanta's blog at : http://samanthasaccessories.blogspot.com/
I also finished another crescent santa and several pillows.....have a great week!

Spindle Angels

Today I finished up the spindle angels I have been working on.  I bought six wooden spindles in a package from Goodwill.
I spray painted them with my favorite brown primer.
Once they had dried, I treated them with a crackle medium and let dry overnight.  I then painted them with light buttermilk acrylic paint and again let dry overnight.  I actually had 5 sets of large wooden wings and some metal scroll that was off of who knows what.  I painted the wings and dusted with mica flakes.  I finished them up as you can see in the pictures below.

I also finished up a couple of raggedies that I call Hugs and Kisses and Sugar and Spice.  I love the way they turned out!

More to come......Later..........

More Christmas in July

I kind of had an easy week last week, pretty much staying in the office all week.  I got lots of things started and quite a few things finished.  One of my favorite, (and you can see a free how-to on my blog: http://livingonthecheep.blogspot.com/) is a muffin tin turned holiday:
I actually made three of these, two mini muffin tins and one full size.  I bought the tins at a thrift shop for $.75 each.  They were quick, and so much fun!

I wanted to do my own take on a primitive candy cane.  I cut out a pattern, pretty large, freehanded, of a candy cane.  I used muslin, stuffed the cane, and then took some painter's  tape and wound it around each cane, painting the uncovered area with barn red paint.

You could actually leave it as is, but I wasn't quite satisfied.  So...After the paint was dry, I coated the cane with modge podge and covered it with mica flakes.   I love the way it turned out, complete with a homespun bow and a poem I got off the internet.

And from a free pattern that I got off the net, I made a couple of these mice on matchboxes.  The only thing I really had to buy was the matchboxes which I got at the dollar store, 2 boxes for $1.

Well, that's about it for the week.  I have some really cool new things started.  I hope to be able to share those with you in a few days.   Later.......

Oh, Christmas Tree....

While the last of the firecrackers are burning out, and the summer heat continues to sizzle, I have visions of sugarplums dancing in my head, not really sugarplums so much, but Christmas trees and raggedies.  Let's see, my first shows are the first weekend in October so that leaves me July, Aug and Sept to prepare so I have been BUSY!  I embellished a primitive pattern from You Are So Special and gave it my own take on Ye Olde Tree:
These trees are made of muslin and painted and stained and then I rubbed in just a bit of cinnamon.  They smell great and have that aged look.  They are mounted on an antique spool and decorated in assorted styles with rusty bells, wire, stars, and tags.

I added to my Raggedy stash with a couple of newbies:
And I also made a Christmas gift for my granddaughter.  Ssshhh, don't tell Brooklynnne..........
One for her, one for dolly.  I think they turned out really cute!

Nearly time for bed and those short weeks are killers, you know!  Later......
